Teaching the basics of investment exposes your kids to understand how businesses work, how to grow money, and hopefully how to make investing decisions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>&#8220;Children should first understand the basics of finances before learning to invest.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Start with saving if possible part of their &#8220;allowance&#8221;, and learning to <strong>delay gratification<\/strong>. These skills should be taught, practiced, and used before moving on to investments.  Children should have personal finance topics \u201cnailed down,\u201d such as understanding the <strong>value of money<\/strong>, <strong>budgeting<\/strong>, <strong>savings<\/strong> and <strong>compound interest<\/strong>.  It is more productive to start talking to children about investing only when they\u2019re in their \u201ctweens\u201d \u2014 between the ages of 8 and 12.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>&#8220;Stocks can be a metaphor for life in several respects. Life is not a straight-line.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>it doesn\u2019t matter if it\u2019s real money or fake money \u2013 and you lose, there\u2019s a certain feeling that happens.
